Last half term the Year 9 Hospitality and Catering students project was focusing on pastry. They gained a greater understanding of the different types of pastry, the function of the ingredients and how to make good pastry. They prepared and cooked a range of baked products such as pasties, fruit tarts and quiche - this enabled them to build upon and refine their cooking skills. The final pastry dish they made was sausage rolls that were judged by St Matthias’s very own Mary Berry - Mrs Jackie Bayliss. Mrs Bayliss was looking for uniformity, appearance and overall appeal. After careful consideration the winners were as follows:
3rd place Kacie Mae Dillon 2nd place Alfie Carter 1st place Giavanna Harris
Well done to our wonderful chefs of the future!
